About Us

The Epiphany Group

Play & Pray was birthed by members of the The Epiphany Group, an ecumenical body of men and women offering spiritual accompaniment, training in spiritual direction and retreats. It is formed in the spirituality of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.

Play & Pray Facilitators

Claire Starr is mum to four grown and growing children aged 18 to 25. She is a leader at the Scottish Episcopal youth weeks & has coordinated children/youth work at St Mary’s Dalmahoy for 10 years.

Sharon Laidlaw is mum to two boys aged 17 and 14. She helps to organise children’s liturgy in St Mary’s in Haddington, runs quiet days and retreat weekends and loves the fact that there is only one letter difference between pray and play – someone is trying to tell us something?!

Elizabeth White was involved in the design of Play & Pray’s materials, and helped to facilitate the first series. She is auntie to three nieces and Godmother to Rosie. She runs Reflective Spaces, works in the Episcopal diocese office and is keen to keep on nurturing her own inner child.

Claire, Sharon and Elizabeth are all Spiritual Directors, members of the Epiphany Group and have taught on the ‘Growth in Prayer and Reflective Living’ course. They offer you their energy and enthusiasm for this work.

Katie McGlew has two little girls who have loved attending Play & Pray over several years. Katie developed the Play & Pray website, and also leads monthly Children’s Worship at Greenside Church in Edinburgh, where she enjoys using Godly Play.
